Today is a special day for me because i publish here the interview of a real fan of Tolkien but also a LOTR collector for 20 years and hobby "prop maker" !
Without further, here is his interview. I would also taking time to thank him for kindly accepting and for giving me some of his time.
To begin, could you introduce yourself to the readers of the blog please ?
Hi, my name is Andrew Stivison and most know me by N2Darkness. I have been a long time LOTR collector 20+years and prop maker for over 10 years.
Where does this passion for Lord Of The Rings universe come from and especially why ?
I've always loved medieval fantasy since a young child. After seeing Fellowshio in Theaters ( 5X i might add ^^). I was instantly amazed and couldn't get enough. The richness that Peter Jackson and Weta brought to their version of Middle-Earth is like no other. It is something i like to be a part of my life everyday as i get so much enjoyment from it !
How did it start and how did this collection begin ?
I have always been a collector and as i got older my tastes just got bigger. Started off with toys and action figures and moved to statues and prop replicas. Eventually moved to making some of my own items that couldn't be bought or found anywhere else. When the movies first came out i knew i needed to get my hands of something from these films and it just exploded from there !
How did your loved ones experience this passion ? And at the present time are there any that are still surprised ? If i ask it's because i know that this kind of passion can sometimes be overwhelming...
My wife has been very supportive for the entire time and i consider myself very lucky in that respect. I even have dedicated room in the house just for my collection that we both enjoy !
How do you manage to find / buy such collectibles ? Because there are some that are largely easy to find but for some i have never even seen them for sale on internet...
Lots of time on collector forums, checking Ebay and making friends with other artists that make unique and one of a kind items ! But mostly my items are from Weta & United Cutlery directly, soon as they come out ! Usually the best way as items tend to sell out and go for more on the aftermarket !
What will be the next pieces that will join the collection ?
I currently have the Argonath and new Sauron statues on order through Weta and Theoden's helmet and Mc Anduril with BudK !

Thanks for asking me for an interview and being interested in me as collector and hobbit prop artist ! One last thing i'd like to mention as i am most proud of my recent build of Bilbo's writing desk from Fellowship of the Rings. It took me 4 months to build and have continued to build accessories that accompany the desk such as books, candle holders and the pipe stand !
